Your Cancun Airport to Chichén Itzá transfer
Chichén Itzá is about 215 km west of Cancun Airport — roughly 3 hours 50 minutes on Highway 180, through Valladolid and the villages of the Yucatán interior. The site opens every day at 8:00 am and the last entry is at 3:00 pm, so on this route the clock matters more than on any beach transfer: land after about 10:00 am and you reach the gate after it has closed to new visitors. A private transfer leaves when you clear customs, not when a tour bus fills up, and drops you at the visitor centre or at your hotel in Pisté, the village next to the site.
There are two ways to do Chichén Itzá from the airport. The same-day visit: arrive, walk the site, and drive back in the afternoon — book it as a round trip; the driver usually waits for you at the site. Or the overnight: land, drive to Pisté or Valladolid, sleep, and walk in at the 8:00 am opening, ahead of the heat and of the tour groups that leave Cancun at dawn. Pisté has hotels within walking distance of the site; Valladolid, 45 km east, has more hotels and restaurants and a cenote in the middle of town.
Since June 2026 every visitor enters through the visitor centre, known as CATVI, and the site tickets are paid there, separate from the transfer. The site was closed for almost two weeks in May 2026 over a dispute with local vendors, and it draws its biggest crowds around the spring equinox in March, when INAH runs special hours. If your dates are close to anything like that, check INAH's notices before you fly — we set the pickup to whatever the site is doing that day.
